Hi, I’m Leon — freelance web designer, WordPress web developer, Art Director and founder of Built by Leon. I live and work in North London.
For nearly 20 years I’ve been creating bespoke websites focusing on good typography and user experience.
In recent years, I’ve been focusing on optimising sites for SEO, Google PageSpeed scores and accessibility.
I hand code my WordPress themes from the ground up and all the sites I build are mobile-first and work across all major browsers and mobile devices.
Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing clients including, among others, an international gin company, a luxury travel consortium, a virtual training company and a stately home in Derbyshire.
Previous to that, I worked for 11 years as an Art Director at TMC USA where we launched Women’s Golf Journal and Kingdom magazines alongside their digital offerings and various other print titles.
And before all that I received a PGDip in Communication Design from Central Saint Martins 1, London and a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from Norwich School of Art 2.
To design and build websites I use:
Sketch, Figma, HTML5, PHP, SCSS, Javascript, jQuery and GitHub, Visual Studio Code, InVision and Adobe XD, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Currently reading up on BEM and always keen to learn new ways of working.
Outside of work:
I’ve shot The Open, Ryder Cup, Queen’s Club Tennis Championships and a World Swimming Championships.
I also love to visit new countries and cultures and try to capture the ordinary and mundane of daily life, some of which you can see on Instagram.
I used to swim too much and ride my bike when I can.
