Web Development

I built my first website in 1997 and it’s fair to say the landscape has changed a lot since then!

Fundamentally though some things haven’t changed—my love of writing clean code. I spend a lot of time optimising websites to load quickly and score highly with Google PageSpeed, which is now used as a ranking factor.

WordPress web development

In recent years I’ve worked a lot with WordPress. Put simply, WordPress allows me to develop you a website that is easy to use on any screen size and gives you the control to maintain it.

I’ve worked on dozens of WordPress projects from small company solutions to larger-budget implementations. I generally build my WordPress themes from scratch (mostly using the Genesis Framework) but can also help edit existing WordPress themes and WordPress troubleshooting (such as site hacks and other errors).

I pride myself on continually learning best practices for developing in WordPress assuring you that your website is fast, safe and secure.

What you can expect from a WordPress site built by me

  • No Manuals Clients will be able to workout where and how to edit content and update their websites will minimal guidance and instruction and the beauty of WordPress powering 35%* of the world’s websites is that there’s no shortage of online tutorials
  • Minimal use of plugins I don’t rely too much on dodgy third-party plugins, everything where possible is built from the ground up
  • No templates No off-the-shelf templates, its all custom code!
  • Custom quality coded

Shopify e-commerce web development

I also work with Shopify e-commerce platform. Shopify is great if you want a hassle-free way to sell online. I can get you up and running quickly using one of the many great pre-built themes and am also able to customise your existing site theme.

Whether you’d like to get a new site up and running quickly or make changes to your current site, get in touch and we can discuss your project.

Responsive design and Mobile-first approach

In today’s market, it is important to provide your visitors an experience on your web site that is accessible by all, and that means across all devices including desktop, tablet, and mobile. Getting there is no easy task and with all the new devices being released at a rapid pace (almost daily!) it’s hard to keep up the pace unless your website is fully responsive in all environments.

All my WordPress and Shopify themes are ‘mobile-first’ that allows your website and content to adapt to screens of many sizes like iPhones and iPads as well as laptop and desktop computers.

With mobile browsing surpassing desktop in May of 2015, and mobile-friendliness becoming an official Google ranking factor in April of the same year, creating a mobile-friendly website is no longer optional: it’s a necessity. It all starts with responsive web design.

[Leon’s] ability to bring our creative ideas to life in a way that’s structurally and technically sound is massively helpful – as is the advice and reminders about site loading speeds 😉
